Harrison Joins Terracon's Fort Lauderdale Office as Environmental Services Department Manager
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. --- Steven A. Harrison, P.G. has joined Terracon as environmental services department manager in Terracon's Fort Lauderdale office. Harrison will be responsible for directing and overseeing the growth and operations of the environmental services practice within South Florida.
Harrison brings 25 years of environmental consulting experience working with financial, commercial, municipal, legal, industrial, and property development market sectors throughout the Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade County markets. Harrison's background includes the assessment and remediation of impacted groundwater and soil, real estate due diligence assessments (Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments), storage tank system management, and industrial and RCRA waste disposal to assist clients with managing environmental concerns. He has successfully worked with developers and property owners throughout South Florida to expedite pre-development remedial efforts and worked with regulatory agencies to obtain conditional closure of sites through the use of institutional and engineering controls, as appropriate.
Harrison obtained a Master of Science in marine geology and geophysics with an emphasis in geochemistry from University of Miami. He received a Bachelor of Science in geology from State University of New York Binghamton. Harrison is a licensed professional geologist in Florida and Georgia.

Minks Joins Terracon's St. Louis Office as Geotechnical Department Manager
ST. LOUIS, Mo. --- Allen Minks, P.E., has joined Terracon as geotechnical department manager in Terracon's St. Louis office. Minks' responsibilities include promoting services to new and existing clients, providing management to all projects and their deliverables, leadership and supervision of the department and local drilling operations, review of laboratory testing and drilling, preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and proposals, along with business development activities.
Minks brings 30 years of experience to his new position from a wide variety of geotechnical studies ranging from home foundation distress investigations to foundation analysis, design, and construction monitoring of multi-million dollar projects. Minks has authored geotechnical reports about various geologic and subsurface conditions and worked on projects throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. Minks is a past president of the St. Louis section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and recipient of the Professional Recognition Award from the St. Louis section in 2012. Minks is also the recipient of this year's ASCE Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award, which is presented to a member of the society who is judged to have contributed substantially to the status of the engineering profession by establishing a reputation for professional services.
Minks is a registered professional engineer in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Oklahoma. He earned a Master of Science in geotechnical engineering and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly University of Missouri-Rolla.

Ellington Joins Terracon's Austin Office
OLATHE, Kan. --- Byron J. Ellington, PG, CPG, has recently joined Terracon as a senior project manager focusing on the Energy Sector, based in Terracon's Austin office. In his new role, Ellington will be responsible for supporting the continued growth of oil and gas. He will exercise his expertise in the investigation, corrective action, and remediation skills he has honed at the Railroad Commission of Texas. Ellington will work with professionals in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas to support and expand the existing work with Terracon's numerous oil and gas clients and open opportunities with prospective clients. Ellington has more than 23 years of experience throughout Texas managing risk-based corrective action assessments and cleanups. Most recently, he spent 12 years at the Texas Railroad Commission as operations manager of the remediation division, which is part of the oil and gas division, and the State Managed Cleanup Program. His expertise includes corrective action projects focused on up- and mid-stream oil and gas properties, assessment and cleanup of groundwater impacted from subsurface well-bore blowouts, remediation of multi-aquifer benzene plumes, and detailed assessments and disposal of NORM impacted soils. Ellington holds a professional geoscientist license in Texas and is also certified as a professional geologist by the American Institute of Professional Geologist. Ellington earned his bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Texas at Austin. Brickey Joins Terracon as Senior Vice President
OLATHE, Kan. --- William Brickey, P.E. has joined Terracon as senior vice president. He is based in Terracon's Phoenix office. Brickey is responsible for strategic development of the facilities and materials services companywide.
Prior to joining Terracon, Brickey served as executive vice president for an international engineering and project management firm overseeing and directing business operations for a portion of the U.S. He served as a key member of the executive committee charged with setting the company direction, driving business development for key projects, and client development.
Brickey has more than 34 years of experience in directing operations, strategy, and business development across the consultancy, engineering, construction, and program management business lines. He also has extensive construction and materials engineering experience with an emphasis in pavement engineering, concrete evaluations, rehabilitation of concrete infrastructure, the design, evaluation, and repair of industrial slabs-on-ground.
Brickey is a registered professional engineer in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He is an active member of many organizations including American Concrete Institute (ACI Committee 360 Design of Slabs-on Ground), American Society for Testing and Materials, American Public Works Association, American Council of Engineering Companies Society of American Military Engineers, and City of Phoenix Village Planning Committee (past member). He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from North Carolina State University.

Terracon Foundation Announces Grant Recipient
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Terracon Foundation recently awarded a university grant in the amount of $2,500 to the University of North Florida (UNF) in support of the UNF College of Computing, Engineering, and Construction (CCEC). The Terracon Foundation university grant supports graduate-level scholarships, fellowships, purchase of equipment, and similar programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, based on employee recommendations.
UNF CCEC provides its students with the highest quality education and professional experiences, to achieve excellence in its teaching, scholarship and service, and to continually enhance its programs through interactions with professional constituents in the community.

The Terracon Foundation was established in 2008 and expanded considerably last year to provide a broader range of grant opportunities. The Terracon Foundation also provides national partner grants, community grants, and employee dependent scholarships.
