Terracon Foundation Awards $98,538 in Grants

OLATHE, Kan. – The Terracon Foundation is pleased to announce the award of $98,538 in community and university grants. The Terracon Foundation was established as the community investment arm of Terracon with a goal to reach out and become a real part of the lives of company employees and the communities where they live and work.
“The recent grants awarded by the Terracon Foundation represent a variety of local needs from a diverse group of nonprofit organizations where our employees are actively involved. These range from helping to build affordable housing, to educating students about careers in STEM,” said Laura Campa, P.E., chair of the Terracon Foundation and manager of Terracon’s Baton Rouge, La., office.
University Grants
As part of an ongoing effort to support higher education, the Terracon Foundation presented university grants for graduate-level scholarships, fellowships, and programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
This year, the Terracon Foundation presented $49,000 to eight universities:

Terracon Names Jason Sander as National Director for Materials Services
CINCINNATI — Terracon, a nationally known and respected consulting engineering firm, names Jason Sander, P.E., as Senior Vice President and National Director for Materials Engineering Services.
Sander was previously Regional Manager for Terracon’s Cincinnati and Portsmouth, Ohio, and Lexington, Kentucky offices. He has been with the company since 1995 performing materials testing and inspection, special inspections, as well as geotechnical and materials engineering, supervision, and management.
”Throughout my career, I have always appreciated the opportunity to work with all the hard-working people in the construction industry, and am thankful to have worked on so many great teams building challenging, unique, and one-of-a-kind projects, or solving difficult problems,” Sander said. “I am looking forward to applying the skills and experience I have learned over the last 24 years to help serve Terracon’s clients and employee-owners in safety, quality, technology, and innovation, and growing and leading the Materials service line.”
A licensed professional engineer in Ohio and Kentucky, Sander earned his Bachelor of Science in civil/environmental engineering, and Master of Science in geotechnical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. His professional affiliations include serving on the board of directors for the Greater Miami Valley Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, involvement in the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Employer Chair for the Construction Industry Partnership through the United Way Partners for a Competitive Workforce, and chair of the Allied Construction Industries (ACI) Workforce Development Committee.

Terracon Acquisitions Enhance Environmental, Geotechnical Resources in the Southeast
Purchases Build Upon Strong Presence in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina
OLATHE, Kan. – Terracon is pleased to announce its acquisition of Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) and Geotechnical & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (GEC). Bringing these two organizations into Terracon enhances the company’s geographic presence and depth of services in Georgia and the Southeast.
ESI is a full-service environmental consulting firm providing environmental, and natural and cultural resource solutions. Founded in 1986, ESI serves public- and private-sector clients nationally from its headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla., and offices in Raleigh, N.C., and Savannah, Ga. ESI’s services include environmental permitting; environmental site assessment and permitting; air quality; soil evaluation; wetlands mitigation and analysis; archaeology and cultural resource studies; underwater archaeology; endangered and threatened species studies; forestry and land management; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); and sustainable services.
GEC is an environmental, geotechnical, and construction materials consulting firm headquartered in Macon, Ga., with offices in Columbus and LaGrange, Ga. The firm serves public- and private-sector clients throughout Georgia and the Southeast in the education, commercial, industrial, and government markets. GEC provides services including environmental site assessments; wetlands delineation, permitting, and mitigation; endangered species; asbestos, lead-based paint, and Brownfields; geotechnical engineering; construction quality control and special inspections; site exploration; and materials testing. In addition, GEC offers a full range of solid waste consulting services.

Alain Gallet, P.E., FACEC, Recognized for Lifetime Professional Achievement Award
Alain Gallet, P.E., FACEC, of Terracon's Birmingham, Ala., office has been recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama with a Lifetime Professional Acheivement Award.

Terracon Names Jacob Spinsby as National Manager of Geophysical Services
DENVER — Terracon, a nationally known and respected consulting engineering firm, has named Jacob Spinsby, P.G., MSc, as national manager of geophysical services.
Spinsby joins Terracon with more than 15 years of geophysical and management expertise, including subsurface utility engineering, geophysical exploration, and infrastructure non-destructive evaluation.
Based in Terracon’s Denver-area office, Spinsby will lead the company’s national geophysics practice.
"I am thrilled to rejoin Terracon’s team of more than 25 world-class geophysicists,” Spinsby said. “I look forward to expanding our geophysical services further.”
A licensed professional geologist, Spinsby earned his bachelor’s degree in geology from Cornell College and a master’s degree in geological sciences from Arizona State University. He has managed projects nationally and internationally in the transportation, power, oil and gas, commercial, and federal sectors, and managed geotechnical departments at several companies, including Terracon.
